In parts you can get that done anywhere. I would recommend making it a shelled piece first. If you have to have the one piece, then maybe look into the ToyBuilder Labs hub in Pasadena. I’m pretty sure their large format printer could help. Hope this helps. ~Metal (burbankmakerspace.com )
i can probably do a full size head, but we’re talking $$$.
do you have a model already?
I’ve done full size heads on my gigabot. I would estimate between $500-$1000 for single color if you have an STL from a scanned head.

Hey @murringa, you should consider using the 123D scanning mobile app, which is free, to get your .STL file and then print it at one of the Hubs below. Let me know how this sounds.
Hello, We’ve done full heads in the past. We’ve done this successfully by printing the head in sections. Some of our clientele include professional athletes, actors, and the advertising industry. It’s possible to complete the head in one section, so long as it fits in the printable area of 12"x12"x12". Let me know if we can help. Nathan (Kapow! 3D - Santa Monica).
Hello, we are a special make-up effects studio in Los angeles and do life casting, 3D scanning and large scale printing of heads all the time. We use our 3D systems 3500 projet which has incredible detail. Do you have a model or would you need someone scanned?
Hi Nathan,
Thanks for your message, I know nothing about the procedure to the of making this head, I am a collector of military uniforms and I purchase normal shop mannequins but the heads let the whole display down, my thoughts are to have a copy of an Asian male head printed hollow is OK , and no need for hair as i can place a wig on it, then cut the mannequin head off and apply the new head, can you tell roughly how much this would cost? David
The first step is we would need a file to work with. A file could be something open-source you find on the internet, like an STL or OBJ file. Both these file types are 3D-printable. If you need the head colorized, you can either accomplish this through full-color printing (really expensive!), or traditional printing through ABS plastic build-up. We can print ABS plastic in any color you’d like (white to match the rest of the mannequin). Of course, it would have the features of which you are intending based upon the model. It’s hard to offer a price based upon an idea, but if you can send me a file (info@kapow3d.com), we can begin the quoting process. I’ve tried simply searching some of the open source websites and will update you if I have any luck.
Hi Lyle, thanks for your reply, are you talking about a solid head or hollow? Dave
Do you have the file of the head already?
If it’s a single color, in PLA, I would quote it at about $300. Depends on the size of the head and the time frame you need it.
PLA would be best in this situation because of the size and application.
I’m very intrigued in doing this project for you. Let me know!
Hey @murringa, still interested in moving forward with the print?
