I have a Makerbot Replicator 2 that has been working fine, minus a few issues such as wearing parts and other minor problems, but recently I was completing a print when somebody in my studio came by and knocked into, subsequently pulling the power cord from the makerbot and thus stopping the print. After putting the cord back in, I realized the print was a fail and I would have to start over, but then I tried to “Build from SD” with the same card and it has a “SD Card Read Error.” I then proceeded to restart the machine, try a new SD card, restore to factory defaults, run other operations, and even update the firmware, but nothing has worked thus far. So, I was wondering whether or not anybody has encountered this problem or knows a way to possibly reset the motherboard or some other action to right this problem. Thanks in advance.
I had close to this situation about a year ago, the original SD Card that came with the printer started acting up, turned out that after many plugging and unplugging, the card actually broke (mechanically) where the gold tabs were. One of the plastic ribs was not in place and gave a sense error to the printer. I took the ribs out and replugged and it worked. I now have a spare 2GB card just in case.
Take a flashlight and look into the SD slot to see if there is anything sticking out that should not be there which may be preventing the card from being read.
Haven’t tried it through USB, but most likely works that way. The card never broke physically, as I said, the machine was simply unplugged by a passerby in my studio during a print file and when I turned it back on it could not read the card. I have tried numerous other cards to prove that it is not the particular card. I have also checked the slot for dust and it’s fine. Basically, I know it’s an error with the firmware or processor of the Makerbot and was wondering if this situation had been encountered and if there were ways other than simply updating firmware to either reset or reconfigure the motherboard to maybe right this problem.
