Maker Select V2 vs Maker Select Plus

I just received my Maker Select V2 the very same day Monoprice announces the Select Plus with a 50% faster print speed, smaller footprint, integrated control design with control panel and some kind of improved anti-jam extruder with on the fly tuning options.

Since I haven’t yet opened the V2, are these features worth the $120 difference in price? Print speed seems like the key issue here.

I’m thinking yes.

Just my two cents worth. The printing speed increase is all “hype”. The speeds advertised by Monoprice (or Wanhao, since they actually make the printer) don’t hold up in the real world. The Maker Select V2 (or Wanhao i3) is a great printer with a proven track record. With a few inexpensive modifications it is a very reliable and accurate workhorse. I would rather spend the $120 on mods and filament for the V2 instead of getting the Plus. YMMV

I’m in the same boat, looking to buy one of these two machines (Maker Select Plus vs Maker Select V2) What mods did you find useful for the V2? can you point us in the right direction?

Matt, did you end up keeping the V2? If so, how are you liking it so far? I’m in the market and cant decided on the Select Plus or the V2…

I think the 2 best mods are Z braces and an all metal hot end. With the Wanhao or the Maker Select the first thing you want to do is change out the connectors where the wires attach to the board. The ongoing problems with these connections ended up biting me in the butt. I though the version I had was good in this department but it ended up having a fire less than a month into being used. I no longer recommend this printer because of all the fire hazards that have plagued it though version after version. If you decide to go with it though, don’t do anything until the connectors have been upgraded.

I did keep the V2 and it’s been working well. I haven’t modded at all, but I think a glass bed and all metal tip as described below would be good mods. No problems with the connectors yet.

I’ve found it’s a very good first printer. The only difficulties so far are mostly mine, like keeping the bed adjusted flat and setting the preheat properly.
