I haven’t used my printer in probably 6 months and I am trying to start a new print. A new version of Cura came out and I was curious what settings I should be using!

The Main issue I’ve been having is the first layer. I think my build plate is warped but I’ve had a lot of successful prints, so it’s not just that. The first layer doesn’t stick and trying to do circles is tough on the first layer, I think it does circles too fast.

Current Settings:

Prusa i3 Printer (I read that instead of making a custom printer to just use the Prusa)

Quality

Layer Height: 0.2 mm

Initial Layer Height: 0.3 mm

Line Width: 0.4 mm

Shell

Wall Thick & Top/Bottom: 0.8 mm

Material

Print Temp: 200c (only using PLA)

Plate Temp: 60c

Flow: 100%

Retraction Distance: 1.5 mm

Speed

Print: 40 mm/s

Travel: 120 mm/s

Should I just use the recommended settings? Or what am I doing wrong?

You can always extract the settings from the gcode of a successful print into Cura. That’s what I do whenever I have a problem. I use 210 for PLA and print at 60 mm/s. However, for the first layer, I use the control panel on the printer to turn the speed down to 25% or so. Once it’s set I ramp it back up to %100 and let it go.

I dont keep my old gcode for items. My sd card is 4gb but i dont like to go through an entire list to get to a new print… I just changed the initial print speed to 12.5 mm/s, I didn’t see that was an option since the new Cura hides a lot of the settings and you have unhide them to use them

Hope that helps! If you get a successful print, go and save the gcode to your computer as well so you have it as a backup. Always a good idea.

If you do use the prusa settings make sure you change z height to 180 which is max height for the maker
