A month ago, I received a small package coming from the sunny island of Malta. It was sent by the amazing guys of Thought3D and it contained two MAGIGOO, an alternative to traditional 3D Printing Adhesives.
The first impression I got, may be summarised as: “Why are they sending me two XL pink uni POSCAs?”. Honestly, I thought that there had been a mistake: I have always used spray or stick glue for my printers. I was really really surprised by the format of the product.
With a mixture of excitement, curiosity and scepticism I decided to test MAGIGOO immediately. I decided to try it for the first time with an Ultimaker 2+, printing a Marvin without using a raft or a brim to improve the adhesion to the platform.
Apply MAGIGOO on the platform is super easy, all you need to do is: shake it, remove the stopper and apply the paste while pushing a bit the marker against the platform. It’s fast and precise as method! Here you can see the result:
The glue is almost invisible and odourless since it is realised mainly with water. It gets sticky when the bed warms up and lets go after it cools!
The print turned out without any problem and it was easy to remove, without any effort.
Honestly speaking, it’s a month that I’m printing using MAGIGOO and I love it, the reasons can be summarised as follow:
- It’s easy to use. It looks like a uni POSCA (a marker that everyone of us used during the childhood)
- It’s more precise than a normal spray paste. You can apply it just to one small and specific spot of the platform
- It doesn’t smell bad
- It’s easy to clean
- It’s easy to remove the print from the platform
- It’s realised by a startup and we love startups!
