I’m looking into having a life-size 3D toy army soldier printed for a Veterans Day fundraiser. I don’t know where to start and am looking for costs to see if it’s something worth pursuing. Similar to image below. Can anyone tell me if this is possible / affordable?

I doubt it, if you’re looking for cost your best bet would probably to shape it with styrofoam and go from there covering it with a resin. Spit balling I would say $300 would be your low end if you can find someone to print it cheaply with thin walls but probably would cost quite a bit more than that. Would be neat though best of luck!

Printing a life sized statue is possible but it will be either difficult or expensive or both. Once you pass a certain size it does not become cost effective to print in my opinion unless you have a large format FDM printer. I have also seen an FDM printer modified to print 10ft sections. Search for “printing an elephant” on YouTube. What I do is take a 3D model and slice it to be cut on my CNC machine, glue the layers together, sculpt it, hard coat it in resin, and then prime and paint it. I sculpt statues for Disney and Universal theme parks. In my experience this is the most reliable, cost effective way to go about it. I use 3D printing to create a maquette or for complex elements of the statue. I have printed full sized heads for statues of real people but sculpted the bodies. Hope this helps. If you just want to hire someone to scupt it, contact me.
