Hi,

When I first set up my K8400 it worked perfectly the first time (3 weeks ago). After about 5-10 prints, 10-20 hours of printing I started getting issues.

On my last print I also had a 1 mm shifted/distorted level as well, which indicate something is wrong on the y-axis.

I’ve now loosen all the pulleys and belts, and tried to realign all rods on the y and x-axis. The biggest difference was about 1mm. I’ve now readjusted all to within 0,3 mm on each axis.

When I move it around with my hand it is very smooth on the x-axis, but less so on the y-axis. Actually when I move the y-axis towards the back of the printer the resistance is very high. So I believe this is my issue.

However I don’t seem to find the reason for it. The rods seem parallell. The pulleys and belts are aligned. And the pulleys are all tightened with two M3 x 4mm SET SCREW.

Any tips?

The picture below show the position with the biggest resistance on the y-axis. It is actually so big that it is difficult to move it by hand.

Folks,

I think I solved it. Just started all over again, and rather than focusing on the distance of the rod to the back wall I now just found the position that made the y-axis move the smoothest. This has atleast solved the resistance issue. And actually the distance from the wall is not to bad either, just 0,5 mm difference between the two sides.

Now Ill try to print.

Hey Christian, You might want to try and print this ‘calibration stick’. It helped me a lot on fixing these kind of x,y issues. Velleman Vertex K8400 XY carriage alignment helper by h60 - Thingiverse Greetings,

Thanks,

Clever, as long as your printer at least can print the parts correctly to align itself

If the problem persists, the explanation on this page might be helpful:
