I’ve been reading a lot on urethane casting recently and 99% of the videos/docs I’ve seen talks about printing a master model, creating a silicone mold from it and then casting urethane with the silicone mold.
This method, although works quite nice, has the extra step of creating the silicone mold. And those molds are clamshell molds which actually limits the designs you can cast.
I have the idea to directly print the mold itself. This way I can create much more complex molds as I don’t have to adhere to 2 parts (clamshell) but can have arbitrary numbers of mold parts that are attached together to form one big complex shape.
Any opinions?
Thanks
Did anybody successfully do something similar? As the mold will be rigid, do I have to worry about draft angles etc? Do I have to worry about polyurathen reacting to PLA or ABS?
