I’m at wit’s end on this one… not sure if it is a filament issue or not.

PLA 1.68 Yes it is/ has been dry

Filament extrudes straight down, no curling (test for clogging) when forced through
Bed Temp 70
Print Speed 40

Hot End temp 210

Layer Height 0.1

Bed leveled at printing temp (A4 barely drags)

Feeling stupid.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

test bed temp 40/50°

I adhere to the printing I use a very strong hair lacquer

Ok print sped

PLA 1.68?

I buy PLA 1.75mm. +/- 0.02mm

test Layer Height 0.15

test hot end temp 195°

let me know

Seems too hot. Bed 60 or so. Hot end at 200-195 should be ok.

Go back to a .2 layer and get it working right. This will be easier that fighting a .1 layer height while fixing other things.

Is there a cooling fan and is it running?

The PLA spools that I’ve purchased at 1.75, are very rarely that. Caliper readings indicate variations below this, down to 1.55. My bad for getting the cheap stuff.

Will try the same print with cooler temps on bed and hot end, and post those results.

Yes, I have 2 cooling fans. One for the print it’self (fan aimed right at the print) and one on the break, which I’m assuming is not the issue.

I’ve actually tried the .2, but will again to monitor those results.

Not sure why the down vote and no negative comment. I guess even the 3-D printing crowd has its trolling cowards.

I remeasured the filament and it is very definitely 1.68 while saying that it is 1.75 on the container. Bad batch ? Who knows.

Also, I noticed that the break fan just didn’t “sound” right, so I replaced it with a cheap Chinese one. Also dialed back the hot end temp to 195.

Perfect print.

My guess is that the break fan was just not up to the job.

Thanks for your recommendations

ACK! The one thing that I “assumed” was not the issue… was.

I replaced the break fan with one I had in a drawer somewhere… Chinese writing all over it… Dropped the hot end temp and it’s working perfectly…

Freaking fan.

Good to hear.

I have some filament that ranges from about 1.68 to 1.77. It is usable but I keep it for test and demo’s etc.
