My 3D IIIP printer needs a new surface pad. I have a new print pad. However, I cannot get the original pad off–the pad sticks very well! The original pad has the letters IIIP in white on the black pad. The printer has four screws (one on each corner) to hold the metal plate/black pad onto the printing surface.

I am trying to remove the damaged pad and add a new one. However, that seems to be a very difficult problem–it is stuck on the metal platform very well!

Possible Solution!!!

Question: Can I put my new pad on top of the old one?

Thank You,

Don

Hi there,

Unfortunately the Buildtak-like material that comes on the Monoprice printers is a bit painful to get off. I’d recommend heating the bed to around 50c, then peeling up a corner (might have to use your scraper to get underneath) and slowly working it off. This will leave a rather gooey residue unfortunately, which can be removed with solvents, I’ve heard WD40 works surprisingly well.

Best,

Removing a surface material of a 3d printer bed could be a painful job. You could use a scraper for the job or try peeling it off smoothly after heating the print bed. However, remember to take utmost precautions.
