I think this would be a bit more convenient to find nearby hub so that it’s easier to pick up the parts. Select the hubs nearby, browse their material is not a bad idea right? Or how about an option to wait for the hubs to get the material for the customer?
It’s also a bit easier for hubs that don’t have many different materials (like mine…)
Hi @Shizen 3DHubs already does this, that’s how the order process flows. Material (and colour) is one of the last steps of the order process before review.
If you’re talking about the technology (FDM, SLA, SLS), then it’s a much better customer experience to list only those Hubs capable of printing their model. There’s no point in listing Hubs only capable of FDM if the customer already knows he wants the model printed via SLA. I think pickup is a fairly rare choice for most Hubs, I know for me it represents less than 5% of my orders so if I’m in any way typical, it makes more sense to list Hubs by their suitability for the model rather than their distance initially.
Well, actually, for me it’s exactly the other way around.
Most orders that are placed at my Hub are being picked up.
I agree completely with the Topic Starter that you should be able to select a Hub FIRST and then select materials, colors etc.
Being able to select Hubs or materials or type of 3D printing in any order should be a possibility on 3D Hubs, no matter what the order the customers is entering these criteria.
For example, I uploaded a STL-file of a rather large 38 cm (15") print just the other day, only to see that 3D Hubs would start listing Hubs that are 1500 km away (1000 miles).
This seems to me rather ridiculous given the fact that 3D Hubs advertises of giving you the possibility of finding 3D printing services IN YOUR AREA when in fact their current display system is more or less ignoring this increasingly.
