I’m new to the site, and I’m looking for help with scaling a 3D model of an ADAM Syringe from Bioshock. I’m looking to have it sized to be a Cosplay prop for a little sister costume I’m working on. All I have is my Galaxy S4 and I can’t modify it myself. I’m not sure of the measurements to be honest, but I’m about 5’4" and it needs to be scaled to match the game. Could anyone help me out? It would be greatly appreciated!

@Alex3DHubs, can you help out? Cheers

Hey,

If you had to give your best guess to the size on the syringe - how long do you think it would be? 6 inches? Once I get that i can send a scaled version to you.

Noooo. It’s more like a gas nozzle for fuelling your car up, or a pressure washer, Alex.

Well, the whole things length should be about a foot, maybe a foot and a half. I’ll try and attach a picture for reference. If you think that’s too long, are we able to maybe cut it into 2 pieces? I tried to find a file that was in pieces, but I could only find this one. whatever is easiest really. I attached an imagine for size reference.

The size of the syringe from the file is about 85 x 53 x 8mm or about 95mm from the needle tip to the top of the bottle, so it’d need to be scaled up by at least 5 or so. Not a problem but it would certainly need to be split into parts for most printers. I could scale it and split it, if you like. I’d suggest that we just scale up the pistol grip part, which is the most complex area. You can find many things to replicate the needle. Were you intending to use your own bottle or have that printed too?

If it needs to be split, then so be it! I appreciate all the help! and I could by all means use my own bottle. I don’t need it to be on there. I could also figure out the needle part on my own Too, if it’s easier to print only the handle.

I’ve scaled it up by a factor of 6 but not chopped it about. Think it would probably be best to allow your selected 3DHub to do that, according to the size of their printer. It shouldn’t be hard to cut it in half along the Z axis, so it can be printed in two halves but it would still need to be subdivided and, to be honest, I can’t see an easy way to do that in a generic way to fit most printers. Hope this helps you out.

Cheers!

Worth saying, it does look more like a design from a game than something that’s intended to be printed. Shouldn’t be a problem printing it but you may need to fill in a few areas where there’s no smooth contour or bits are a little thinner than you might like. I suspect that the trigger would be a little wobbly as it’s only attached at one end end even then only by, like 1/4" of material. I imagine it’d be OK for one day but if you wanted to re-use it it would probably be best to strengthen it a bit.

Cheers!

Could make it yourself from bits that look the part
