I’m looking for a handheld scanner that can be used to scan production parts and compare them to CAD models for QC. It would need to be able to accurately scan small diameter holes (Ø2.05mm) and their depths on parts that can be as small as around 10mm³ but as large as 400mm³ that also has many complex shapes and pockets of varying depths. I would also like the ability to scan large items, like a full size car, but that’s not required. We’ve inquired into the Faro products but we weren’t extremely impressed for the cost of the machines. I would like to keep the cost below $100k for the machine and software. Ideas?

Here’s an overview of scanning solutions that we have collected:
I don’t think it provides the exact answers you’re looking for, but it’s a start!

All of those look pretty cool from an artistic standpoint, like scanning people or large objects. We need something with extremely high resolution and real-time scanning results. Probably something with a blue light laser. Something like this might work but I don’t think these are suggested for parts smaller than 100mm³. Are there more accurate scanners out there for the money for use on both small AND large parts?
