A couple of months ago I wrote on Talk about my razor start-up, the Ockham Razor Company.
We have now lunched it on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter!
I could never have got this far without 3DHubs. Not only did 3D printing help with the actual design process, it’s also let us get to a stage where we can really show people what our product will look like.
A lot of the pictures on our Kickstarter page are 3D prints painted up to make perfectly realistic prototypes. We’ve also been able to make prototypes for special edition razors which we will make such as this copper one.
So although we have a manufacturer lined up, costed and ready to make the production razors in a zinc alloy, it’s all been thanks to 3D printing. Maybe soon we’ll be able to 3D print the whole thing in metal.
Have a look at our Kickstarter campaign and if you like what you see then please back us and share it with your friends!
I’d love to hear from anyone else who has taken their 3D printing project on to a crowdfunding platform. I’ll look forward to your comments below or feel free to drop me a line via the Ockham website.
Thanks 3DHubs!

Thanks! It would be amazing to print in metal. For now we’ve just done ABS and PLA.

The ugly, over-engineered plastic razors didn’t bother me before.
But now they do.
Great reengineering and stylize of a product that has many customers.
Good luck

I’ve had to order more 3D prints because I’ve been sending Ockham Razor prototypes all over the world!
Here’s one on Instagram that got used in a product shot for a company called ShaveFace.
