PET is a food safe material. However, something to take into account is nozzles are made out of brass and that can deposit lead into the material itself. So in theory there are materials out there that are food grade however not if you are using a brass nozzle. Though if you are making something simple like a plate or spoon I dont see high volumes of anything that already isnt in other things that would seriously affect anything.
Hi there,
Just the other day I have heard from the company called Green Cartridge Technology about their Anti-microbial 3D printer filaments. According to their website you can print cutlery with it. Perhaps it would be worth a try? Here’s the link http://www.gctecllc.com/products/anti-microbial-pla-filaments/ 29
Cheers!
Just a word of caution, just because something says it is food safe doesn’t mean it is entirely food safe. Some PLA filaments can be deemed food safe because they are made from resources such as corn starch, but many people forget that the color pigmentation of a filament could alone make a “food safe” filament unsafe. So be cautious about getting any colored food safe materials. May be best to look for white or natural colored food filaments.
Just look for PLA purement filament on the web
