Hi guys,

New to 3D printing and 3D Hubs, looking forward to playing around with it once it arrives after the weekend.

One of the things I noticed right away was that it was a pretty clear opinion that Simplify3D is the way to go to have things run easily and smoothly. However, most of these ‘reviews’ I have ready came out before the new Flashprint 3.8 and more recently the 3.9 updates. I have read that these are ‘significant’ updates and improved robustness and added some features, but have not been able to find any comparisons between the 3.8/3.9 against the Simplify3D.

Those who have had some experience with the new Flashprint updates, how do they stack up against S3D? Is it worth spending money now to get S3D?

Thank you,

Thomas

hey there. i am using flashprint 3.9.0 on my finder and creator pro.
flashprint decimates s3d in slicing, ease of use, and most importantly, flashforge printer performance without ANY setup other than installation of flashprint ans selecting your printer.
s3d has more features, however it does not perform as smoothly when it comes to printer operation. s3d seems to “vibrate” the creator pro apart at 35/45mm/sec where in flashprint, i can use 100/90mm/sec without any issues other than print quality sacrifices when it comes to those speeds (ringing, weak infill etc.)

I agree with Thomas_Craddock, the latest update to Flashprint enhances print time and quality so much that it makes Simplify3D almost entirely useless… I’m also within the first 30 days to return my Simplify3D license so I’m quite considering that…

I tested printing 2 marvins: 100 microns, 100mm/sec, 25% infill for both S3D and FP and FP printed in 35 minutes, S3D printed in 1 hour…

I tested printing 2 marvins: 80 microns, 100mm/sec, 25% infill on both again, and the same thing happened… S3D was similar quality as FP but FP killed it in print time 38 mins VS 1hr 7 mins…

Not only that… the auto-supports are quite something amazing! Extremely easy to remove physically and software-like… I’m going to try the S3D vs Makerware next and see where I stand… I might end up saving $150 bucks for something I won’t use…

Hello Thomas,

I have a Creator Pro and just downloaded Flash Print. However, when I attempt to print something, after slicing is complete and the info dialog box appears telling me the material estimate and time requires, there is only a “back” button and no “print” button. Is there something special you did? Am I missing something?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

David

the creator pro does not support the usb cable print feature, coming in a later revision i think. the problem is that it has a high failure rate when using the sd card has like none. octoprint works nicely.
use the sd card, generate the x3g in flashprint and copy it to sd.
or, if you have octoprint setup, use that interface over wifi.
also, please be sure you are on flashprint version 3.10.0 and have flashed the printer bios over usb cable (this feature does work)
