Hi,
I recently picked up my printer and was told that the x-axis is not working. The firmware was upgraded to sailfish 7.7 at the same time as the problem presented. I have been trying to load a different firmware but I have never really done much so am not sure what firmware should be on there or if it is even a related problem? Any help would be much appreciated!

Maybe a Stepper Driver has failed.
You could try swapping over the X Axis Stepper for the Z and Visa Versa,
If then your Z Axis Stops, at least you could verify it is a Stepper Driver or not.
I personally have not had any Firmware problems that Stop certain Axis’s.
Hope this Helps.

Most likely it is the cable going to the stepper.
Well unfortunately is very hard to run anyting other than said fish as that is the boards primary language …that said these machines are very simple and is likely a motor driver failure
I agree that the most likely candidate is a cable failure. In your original post, you said the ‘x-axis is not working’, but you didn’t say whether or not it’s trying to move but can’t (making a grinding type sound) or if it never tries to move. You also didn’t say where on the X-axis it’s “stuck” at. Is it all the way at the end-stop and can’t move off the end-stop? Is it sitting in the middle and not moving? Is the end-stop activated (i.e. is the LED “on”?). If you manually move the X-axis to the middle, does that affect its ability to move? Will it move in one direction, but not the other?? These are all questions that have to be answered before someone can say exactly what is wrong with it… And it’s always possible it’s multiple issues.
It could be the stepper driver, the cable to the motor, the end-stop, firmware settings, etc. All are likely candidates. Since it happened with the changing of the firmware, it could be something as simple as a setting for flipping the polarity and/or ends of the endstop sensor, as those are all firmware options. That’s why it’s important to know if it can move in one direction but not the other. Hopefully before you updated the firmware, you remembered to make a backup copy of the original firmware that was in the printer, along with an image of the EEPROM, so that you can restore the code and original settings if need be.

Hi All,
So much thanks for the updates - I have done a ton of testing (after abandoning the printer for 4 months) and found that it is the stepper motor driver. I need a replacement. Anybody have any idea where I can get one in the UK? I don’t really want to pay ten times + the cost of the part on delivery costs from the flashforge store.

Thanks for this and sorry for the late reply. It is definitely the driver. Any idea how or where I can get a replacement?
