Hello,

I have been obsessed with 3D printing since I first learned about it at Eurekafest 2014. I am in the market to buy my first 3D printer. My budget is around $1000 for a 3D printer. What is the best printer for the money? Is getting a kit better than getting a prebuilt machine? Should I want dual extruders or a singular extruder? Should I build one from scratch?

Hi just my thoughts. But I don’t think a dual extruder is better. Because making the models in 2 colours is a lot harder and I have never used it for practical uses. Also you can get around printing in two colours with one extruder. ( I believe some people have done it). As well there is the issue of the second extruder hitting the print or being off level that can sometimes ruin prints. Overall I would go for one extruder and save yourself the money. ( just my opinion)

http://reprap.org is the Best place to go I learned all i know from this site and there are things that they will not teach you.

there are no longer good places to buy parts for a REPRAP but I will make you a Set of Plastic parts if you ask Full set is 100.00CND that includes the parts like Spool holder and switch mounts and braces. First thing you should print out with your new printer is a set of end stop clamps and power supply mounts Oh also 13.56 to 14.23VDC tune your power supply to above 12.56VDC this apply only if your using a PIC Heat bead and attach your base temp sensor to the edge of you heated bead.

@, thank you very much for your reply. I know nothing about the technical side of 3D printing, at least not yet. Can you explain to me what you mean? How difficult is to build a 3D printer? I am not a very good programmer, do I need to be in order to build my own 3D printer? Thank you for your offer.

I think, it would be a good thing to build your own.

Its a fun process, and most important, you get to know how your printer works. (no rocket-science involved)

My first printer was a Replicator 2, and I noticed pretty fast, i was missing some background.

The printed did fine, but when something is wrong with it. Its way easier to fix, if you assembled it yourself.
