Hi,

I have some filaments without spool. I have an Ultimaker 2. I simply need a spool for every print.

Do you have a trick to use filaments without spool with ease ? I want to avoid to loose time and getting knots

Thanks for sharing

Ah, the wonders of Thingiverse  Thanks for helping out, @Jiaqi!

And then there’s always the awesome spool from @CreativeTools Universal stand-alone filament spool holder (Fully 3D-printable) by CreativeTools - Thingiverse

I reuse an old spool but he is sometime dusty… No good for 3d printing…

Thanks for ideas !

This used to be one of my biggest frustrations. I love the experimental filaments but they often come unwound with no spool. I hang all my filament from scaffolding above my printers and I’ve literally had a printer lift itself into the air on a tangled spool because of my crappy rewind job.
I recommend printing an adapter(many designs on thingiverse) for attaching an old spool to a power drill. This lets you focus on guiding the filament back and forth with your hand for a perfect spool. It takes a little practice. Start slow. Oh, and if the drill has a torque adjustment, you want to turn that way down so you don’t accidentally snap/stretch your filament.
Good luck!

No dust catcher/filter on your filament? There are many designs for them but I just zip tie a piece of microfiber around the filament right before it enters the extruder and never had a problem.

I second the CreativeTools spool suggestion, I’ve been using one for a few weeks now (best used with a feeder tube and the trick they recommend for cleaning / lubrication - put a piece of sponge in the arm hole and soak it with mineral oil)

Thanks for the detailed response ! I totally agree.

Great advice to use a drill. I will try.

With samples, it’s also a mess…
