Hi there folks,
Bit of an odd one that’s never happened to me before. The filament ended before the print and I tried to swap over to a new reel of filament mid print (which didn’t work but that’s ok). I am now trying to get new filament through the extruder but can’t as I think the old filament is still too far up the extruder to pull through.
Any ideas? Scared I’ve clogged my extruder now

Heat up the extruder and remove the last part , this is possible if you retract the filament. if not you have to do this manaly ( but you have to heat up the filament!
Put in the new role of filament and measure the heigth op your print. Let the print start at this height. This is how it works if you use simplify as slicer software!

thanks for the reply! My issue isn’t that the print failed. It’s more that I now can’t insert new filament into the extruder. I have tried retracting the extruder to try and get the last bit of filament out (of which there must only be a few mm). I can’t push that last bit of filament through by forcing the new filament on top of it either as it seems to be trapped (I’ve been trying this with the hot end at 200 degrees C).
Think the the only thing left to do is to try and remove the nozzle and hope the filament comes with it. If not, I’ll have to try and take apart the extruder.
any advice would be greatly appreciated!
ok,and if you try by pushing a piece of filament trough manualy and increase the temp to 220 for PLA and 230 For ABS?

Problem fixed! Luckily, in removing the nozzle (cold!), the filament came out with it. Then I just popped the nozzle in the oven at 210C and melted the filament and pushed that through the nozzle with some more filament, problem sorted! This was actually quite a nice fix in the end. Lesson learnt though… don’t run the filament to the end!
