Every time the nozzle is heated PLA filament leaks out, even during a print when it’s going over something it’s not supposed to print. This has happened since I got my QIDI X-One a couple days ago. I have been told to just “grab it with a pliers” but that’s not practical during the print. I am new to printing so I might need to adjust something on the printer.

Here is a print where the extruder has to go back and forth between two columns, leaving filament suspended in the print.

What temperature are you heating your nozzle at? Your temp is most likely too high causing it to leak out.

Leaking during pre-heat is quite normal. However what you describe as going between two columns is called stringing and is different. The main things on stringing are temp a little to high and retraction settings.

You may not be able to completely get rid of it depending on material, settings and model but should be able to reduce, it.

More info is needed.

Slicer, material, temps, which side (nozzle) are you using.

If it is PLA then that is quite high. 190-205 is a normal range for most PLA.

I have the temperature set to 217 C. I’m going to try a lower the temp and enabling retraction.

Okay, i’ll try 200 on my next print. My filament has a range of 190-220 C.

Also, random question, what filament do you use? or what would you recommend?

Yea, I would try that. What side are you using? I would use the left for PLA and make sure the part cooling fan comes on.

I have good results from Hatchbox and eSun. I have started using a lot of eSun’s newer PLA+. This one I run at 215. Higher than normal but their recommendation and it is nice stuff.

I just bought a roll of hatchbox yesterday, right now I’m using the cheap stuff that came with my printer.

I’m assuming you’re thinking I have a duel extruder. Unfortunately I don’t.

I tried printing @ 205 C with retraction on and I haven’t seen a single string. Thanks for your help:)

Sorry!! I have been going back and forth on several issues with Tech-1’s and X-one’s! Got confused!
Glad it is getting better.
