I have been having alot of problems with my extruder since I had my 3d printer and now the extruder just won’t run consistently. The motor is always spinning but at times no filament is coming out, but if I leave the motor running for a while is starts coming out again.
I’m printing in PLA at 210C and my printer is a Reprap Prusa I3 Pro B
A few things to check. Is 210 within the correct temperature range for your filament. Can you use the control panel or software to feed 10-20 mm of of filament through the extruder. Check popping or grinding noises. Does this happen only on a certain part of the bed or only at the beginning of a print? Is the hotend temperature on the display consistent or does it jump around? (By more than 5 degrees) Are there any loose wires around the hotend (is the thermistor properly seated) Is the filament tangled or crossed on the spool.
Most likely, you do not have enough pressure on the extruder drive gear, if you can manage to get it to print, you can print your own pieces. Worst case scenario is just order one from a hub on here. The one that came with my “Migbot Prusa I3” had a simple spring to apply the pressure, it was not strong enough to apply appropriate pressure cause feeding issues, so i removed the spring, and now use a machine screw to apply the pressure. Have not had an issue as of yet. I will post a picture of my setup today, and if you like it, i am more than willing to print you one.
