So I started a SLA project a while back that requires printing [mostly] transparent material with various tints. For simpler designs, it’s possible to print the thing clear then dye/‘paint’ it by hand afterward. But with the more complex stuff I’ve got in mind, I’m going to have to be able to directly print the tinted material without losing more than say 50% of the transparency. Anyone have any experience with this kind of thing? I’m pretty new to the entire 3d printing enterprise, very appreciative of any recommendations of educational material related to this question.
tl;dr: Need tinted transparent material. Want to directly dye resin to avoid having to do colouring as post-processing. Need to maintain most transparency, but true optical clarity not required.
Thanks folks (:
Hi @Scintillator, have you tried Material Jetting as a technology? It’s usually easier to print transparant than SLA (but more expensive though)
Also, you can check out the Material index and look for options; Online 3D Printing Service | Instant 3D Printing Quotes | Hubs
Thanks a lot for the recommendation, Filemon - Material Jetting is among what I assume to be many things I haven’t yet tried. Will do some experimenting (:
