What is the differences between a dual extruder and a 2 in 1 extruder?

The dual extruders need two hotends, and not all control boards support dual extruders. In the slicing program, it will drop the inactive hotend to around 150 degree. It will stop hotend from dripping out filament, but fast enough to re-activate it again.
The 2 in 1 extruder is to use two extruder motors but one hotend with a Y-adapter. In my case, I used 2 in 1 to save energy. When the single hotend is used in the slicing program, you will need to create enough waste tower to purge the previous filament before starting a new layer. The special gcodes are inserted when extruder change starting and ending, so the inactive filament can be pulled out and active filament can be inserted. This requires constant calibration to make it work correctly. I found it difficult if you use cheap filaments.
