I just got some HIPS filament to use for ABS support material and decided to try it out. I am using Slic3r but I am unable to set it up to use both filaments. It continues to try and use the right nozzle for both part and supports, only it doesn’t extrude the supports.

I am unable to set this up on my own and now plead for help in figuring out how to setup slic3r to do dual nozzle prints.

Does anyone have any experience or sources for dual printing with slic3r?

Is your Extruder Toolhead Index set to different numbers nozzles for each material?

Seems rather obvious, but within Print Settings>Multiple Extruders, did you set your Support Material Extruder to 2?

Did you try printing something else? Is it only the left nozzle not running after awhile? could you send a pic/video of it?

James,

I used Slic3r for my TAZ dual extruder; printing with ABS and NinjaFlex. I had some success after hours and hours of messing with Slic3r. This is about as far as I got.

After upgrading to a second extruder and all the problems it gave me, and having to deal with a workflow for two printers, I decided to abandon Slic3r about a year ago for Simplify3D. It has made my life so much easier and has doubled my print quality and success.

My advice would be to ditch Slic3r and save yourself a massive headache.

I don’t have any of my old profiles for you, sorry!

Good luck!

MM

Thanks for the advice. I have actually had a lot of success with slic3r, compared to replicator-G and makerware, and I have heard mixed reviews about simplify3D. I guess I just can’t yet justify the cost of paying for software that I am not sure will be better than what I already have.

Who knows I may get there soon enough.

Update: I finally found the issue. I missed a “T” in my ‘tool change’ section of the custom G-code. I had “[next_extruder]” instead of “T[next_extruder]”.

Simple as that. Thanks for all of your help.
