James,

I used Slic3r for my TAZ dual extruder; printing with ABS and NinjaFlex. I had some success after hours and hours of messing with Slic3r. This is about as far as I got.

After upgrading to a second extruder and all the problems it gave me, and having to deal with a workflow for two printers, I decided to abandon Slic3r about a year ago for Simplify3D. It has made my life so much easier and has doubled my print quality and success.

My advice would be to ditch Slic3r and save yourself a massive headache.

I don’t have any of my old profiles for you, sorry!

Good luck!

MM

Thanks for the advice. I have actually had a lot of success with slic3r, compared to replicator-G and makerware, and I have heard mixed reviews about simplify3D. I guess I just can’t yet justify the cost of paying for software that I am not sure will be better than what I already have.

Who knows I may get there soon enough.

Interesting, I have only heard positive about S3D!

I’ve got an UM2 and TAZ4 and it has done wonders for both machines!

I used Slic3r and Cura for a while and imo S3D is the best of both worlds.

I also found it hard to justify the price of S3D, but when I realized you get two product keys and free up-grades for life, I bit the bullet and have not been disappointed yet!

They are constantly adding new machines to their directory and customer service is awesome.

Hope you solve your problems!

I don’t think this would be helpful unless I get a slicer that is better that slic3r. Rep-g and makerware just aren’t cutting it for me and I see no value in pursuing their use. Simplify3D has been suggested and may be a possibility but aside from the dual printing issues I am having I am thrilled with slic3r.

I feel the same way! Slic3r worked well for me until extruder 2 came along. S3D has an awesome dual extruder calibration and leveling tool. Huge help for me

I checked this and all plugs are installed firmly. The strangest thing is that both nozzles lay down a line at the front of the bed before it starts printing. I suspect that the problem is in the custom g-code setup in slic3r. But I don’t know any g-code yet.

Update: I finally found the issue. I missed a “T” in my ‘tool change’ section of the custom G-code. I had “[next_extruder]” instead of “T[next_extruder]”.

Simple as that. Thanks for all of your help.
