Thanks to everyone who made it to http://makerfairedover.com/ this weekend! Especially Boston Hub operator @ for bringing his Folgertech Prusa i3 and working the booth with me. There were non-stop questions from the influx of people all day long and the assistance was invaluable! He also brought our booth girl Whitney to stamp makerfaire passports for http://www.futuretechwomen.org/ participants and answering questions about our 48" model of the Firefly ship Serenity.
The kids who stopped by the booth were invited to help grind scrap ABS with the 3DHubs Fila Maker while we explained how we would use it in the 3DHubs Filabot to make more filament for new prints.
Can’t wait until next year!

Wow, the Firefly looks awesome! How did you guys do that mosaic thing, with different parts in different colors?

Yes, printed on the two printers pictured. We scaled the file and made each cut individually with free NetFabb software. The project used about 10Kg of PLA filament from our sponsor www.folgertech.com with more than 190 pieces at more than 200Hrs of printing even with one bot running a volcano hot end from sponsor www.PrintedSolid.com .

Impressive! Did you guys make it for MF especially? Or do you plan to showcase it somewhere else?
Displaying it at this fair was the original intent which has grown into painting her and going to some Cons. If were ever able to sell her in auction, we’d like to donate the money to a 3DP charity like http://enablingthefuture.org/
LEDs and anrduino are not out of the question as she is hollow… I can even fit a SharperImage cheapo projector inside.
