Lately I have been working on a new camera mount for Kennesaw States Construction Management’s DJI Inspire 1 drone. The camera has the ability to film and shoot in 3d. Because it is impossible to find real parts for these drones I first model the camera mount plate for the drone, this allows me to add holes for future attachments. I have attached a few views of the model.
Critics?
Has anyone been able to find “real” CAD files for these drones?

That’s a good question I ment to add to the post. I’m not sure, what would you recommend? I need something strong enough that could hold a camera but a material that wouldn’t add to much weight.
What do you mean by “real” cad files? That looks like a pretty easy file to print on it’s side, but you will have to clean up the holes and they will probably not be dimensionally accurate the first time around.
Got to be Proto Pasta’s Carbon Fibre PLA @AlexDick is your man in the know.
For the drone we have a lot of people have made mimic versions and call them the real thing. Specially on thingiverse. I can’t find CAD files that are of the as-built parts. The model I made, above, should be very close to accurate, of course I will have to print it to see what’s off and by how much. I shouldn’t have to much trouble with the print, as you said I was going to print it on it’s side. The holes are right, there has to be a offset because they are mounted with a rubber grommet to eliminate most of the vibration, thats why the material has to be light but strong.
Proto-pasta carbon fiber is light and stiff with exceptionally dimensional accuracy. It’s not a “tough” material so I don’t recommend it for surviving crashes. If you need something more durable and can print at 280C+ with a 110C+ heated bed, I can recommend Proto-pasta PC-ABS Alloy. Its tougher and stiffer than standard ABS! Hope this helps!!!
As long as it is stiff and not brittle it should work, if the drone crashed we would have a lot bigger problems than the camera mount lol. Thank you for your help! I’ll be picking up some Carbon Fiber from you guys.
As for supports, could I use normal PLA for the support material?
I don’t think Makerbot could handle the PC-ABS Alloy.

You can use standard PLA for supports. Also carbon fiber supports are easy to remove!

If you had make a rough guess how many Marvins do you think you could get out of the 125g sample? I don’t want to get a large spool and for some reason not be able to print with it.
A lot of Marvin’s! I think the little key chain only takes like 3g of plastic (depending on wall thickness and infill of course).
Loose coils are kind of a pain so if you can justify/afford it, I recommend spooled for the best experience!!!
