Hello, Me and my group are doing a senior design on a underwater object. we would like to know if you guys could give us any advice on a cheep and strong material that we could use to built this object. we were looking more into plastic materials. The help would be much appreciated.
My suggestion would be either PLA or ABS. You can’t really go wrong with either one and they should both suit the needs you listed.
Here is a good article for the advantages of PLA or ABS.
Hope this helps.
I obtained a reel of PETG filament from E3D on-line which states it’s waterproof, together with waterproof sealant and 0.1 layer height could produce a possible box for the project.
Do some tests and see what works then write the results into the project’s documentation.
+1 for PET+/G or even ABS. PET would be great for a light and accurate part.
PLA runs the risk of degradation over time, since the corn-based plastic starts it’s degradation process when exposed to large amounts of water.
