Anybody else out there been in the machining world for a few years? I am starting work on designing a new group of cutting tools and I intend to prototype them. Just curious to see what everyone has to say.

Hey bajos33,

I don’t have much experience in the machining industry as you’ve said , but I’ve worked on different projects for designing new models/ products. If you’d like I could help you with the designing process as this is something that I’m experienced in. It would get interesting to hear about these new group of cutting tools as you’ve mentioned. I can provide you with my email if you want to keep the prototyping ideas private.

It would be great what you think. Hopefully I can help you with your project.

That sounds great! I am fairly good with Solid Works and Inventor, but I am working on new material that the Cummins engine is going to be switching over to in 2018 and that has got me thinking that alot if other automakers are going to be doing the same because of the excellent properties this material has. But… It is really good for an engine, the cost is awful to make it. I would say it takes near twice as much in tooling costs to make a block out of the new material. Anyway, i am game, i will send you over some more facts about the material and cutting conditions, if your still interested ofcourse. Thanks again

The work you plan on doing sounds really interesting. It’s also great that you’ve got some modelling experience. My email is kanedervan@icloud.com.

I look forward to hearing more about your work.

I have CAD and some machine shop experience. We used to make custom tools for a winch company (was partner in a shop in the past). I’d be happy to offer assistance if needed.
