Massive thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this…
I have tried to update my replicator dual CTC clone to sailfish but somewhere along the line have managed to brick it.
I was following a youtube video for it which recommended before updating to sailfish to go get it up to replicator 7.5 using the makerbot desktop software. it wouldnt update with this so I used Rep G 0040 to do this, it was on 7.2, it seemed to go to 7.3 fine but then listed itself as not connected on Rep G. I proceeded to try with 7.4 install, but it wont work.
The buttons on the front of the printer dont work, after inspecting the board with the machine on, its constantly flashing the green LED in the corner labeled as PB7 DEBOG (im assuming they mean debug). This switches off when I click reset and starts up straight after)
Does anyone know what do do? I have tried to initiate the install with both REP G 0040 and REP G 40r30. I have tried so many different timing strategies with pressing the reset button and update on the pc as well as trying to initiate the upgrade during power on boot up of the printer.
When I do click to upgrade it take 30 seconds or so before it comes up with 'The firmware update did not succeed. Check the console for details. You can click upload and try again.
If I try and connect to the printer on REP G it says in the console;
[13:36:49] Connecting to machine using serial port: COM4

Hi everyone, I was going to close this delete this discussion but then thought this was massively difficult for me to find any clear help. I ended up getting it work by using REP G 40r30, I went for the 7.7 sailfish install for the replicator single/dual , when your on the upgrade screen ready to press upgrade/reset on the print, switch the power off to the print, press reset (during its boot up before it gets to the main screen) then press upgrade straight after/at the same time.
I managed to upgrade mine. The biggest issue I had was to hit the upload firmware and press the reset button. Basically I figured that letting go of the reset button before hitting upload wasn’t working. So I kept the reset pressed, then hit upload and let go of reset a fraction afterwards. The green LEDS flashed and the firmware updated.
Ok so from one problem to another… I have managed to get it to sailfish 7.7 running rep g 40r33 however something isn’t right. If I click either the right or left extruder to feed the carriage just moves right in the x axis. This happens both if directed by control panel in rep g and if done directly on the machine with a filament change. Thanks in advance for any help. I assumed at first it might have been a faulty connection but all looks ok. The extruder worked correctly only hours before with the creator v1.0 stock firmware the ctc came with.
Ok so I managed to solve this one, I dismantled the top carriage and it looks like I mixed up the left and right extruder motors which was causing them to each work in reverse. The hot end and fans were still in the correct place which gave the impression that the feeder motor was moving (due to the sound) but in fact it was the opposite motor. Managed to get it up to 7.7 sailfish and the feeder is working correctly!
Yeah, unfortunately I jumped straight into taking the whole thing to bits and trying to make it better based on the reviews I’d read on the hub. I fitted a mk9 extruder so was able to push down the release spring and push in the filament. I assumed it was the motor not being activated by the firmware but this was wrong.
I’m surprised how quickly it takes in the filament, it’s obvious now I’ve got it working that the problem was the motor in reverse as I could hear it engaging when the filament loading code was activated.
