I recently started getting problems on my PC (Quad core 8300) not recognising ports with an error 5. Having reinstalled everything USB wise (drivers for usb, 3d printer, hubs etc) I now have a weird solution. If I attach my Micromake Delta it identifies it as com3 and says it is in use and will not connect to Mattercontrol or Pronterface etc. If I plug in my laser cutter as well (it identifies this as com4) it will connect. I don’t want to have to keep my laser cutter connected as it is 1mx05m. Anyone got any clues as to what is happening?

My first guess is something else has grabbed COM3. It could be software that is doing it. One of my slicers was set to go to a specific COM port and if I started it, it grabbed the port even if nothing was actually on it.

I might see if I could push the printer to a port above 3 or 4 and see if it helps.

Many thanks for coming back.

I found com 10 free in Device Manager, so set it. Now Mattercontrol says com 10 in use and will not connect, even if I connect the laser cutter.
