Dear friends… I a a filamant manufacturer from India, I have setup a small filamant production machine (30m/min). I am manufacturing it for 3d pen. I am facing a problem… When I make filament of pure abs with no colour added, it prints fine… but as soon as I add up some pigment in it, it starts giving alot of bubbles. And it happens only when I add pigment in the abs… kinfly anybody guide me about its solution. Is there any additive to be used along with pigment? The green is coloured and gives bubbles

Hi there,
Could there be any moisture in the pigment? This would cause bubbling and sizzling when it’s extruded.

The scenario here is strange, I produced a small quantity of pure filament and then a small quantity of coloured filamant… used them right after production both worked fine, then used after 4-5 hours both worked almost fine, then used after 24 hours… pure still worked same but green started bubbling… so ot seems that a coloured filamant absorb moisture at greater rate… but I have a lot of chinese filamant, they don’t do so… I doubt they add some additive or there is some special pigment for this purpose.
What kind of pigment? you should use inorganic heat resistant pigment with ABS, otherwise you boil it.

Usually, bubbles comes from moisture inside the filament. According to wikipedia :
“Many engineering polymers are hygroscopic, including nylon, ABS,polycarbonate, cellulose, and poly(methyl methacrylate).”
Make another batch and test if you have the same bubbles.
Good luck

Thanks for guiding me… can you tell what is specific market or industrial term being used for these? As I doubt people in market will not understand inorganic pigments… Thanks
