Can't get 45deg bevels on non cube geometry in blender

Hi,

I’m using Blender 2.77 and while I can get a 45 degree bevel using control B on a cube, if I make a cuboid then the bevel is sharpest on the short side and less sharp on the longer side. See attached pic. anyone know how to keep the bevel to 45 degrees regardless of geometry?

I usually subdivide vertically and horizontally to give me a square in the corner roughly the size of the bevel I want to make then bevel that. I attached an image.

Try to check if you scale the cube and not apply (Ctrl+A) the scaling.
