Hey all,

I just purchased the Simplify software less than an hour ago. It’s already crashed on me five times, and I keep getting an error message that says “Cannot auto-arrange. Largest part exceeds build dimensions.” whenever I try to import a model. All of the models I’m trying to import have been printed before on my printer with SLIC3R, and with no problems - the most recent one is only about 3 inches high, and 3 inches wide, and 3 inches deep, if that. I wanted to get Simplify to up my game a little bit, and play around with the vast options. The program crashes when I attempt to “Center and arrange” the models manually. I get the rainbow wheel (I’m on a MAC), and then have to Force Quit. I’d like to know what the problem is.

I’ve attached screengrabs of what I was able to capture regarding these problems. If anyone can offer any help, I’d really appreciate it. This is frustrating.
Thanks all!
matt

Have you set the Simplify3D scaling to millimeters or inches? (switch to millimeters). If you select OK on the error message the model should still be imported, then you’d have to scale it to the proper size to make it printable. The rotation tool and other “unprecise” tools can be accessed by clicking with the left or right mouse button while holding down crtl or alt. If you double-click the model there should be a window popping up on the right hand side which enables you to dial in precise coordinates, scaling factors and rotation values.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I tried editing the model as you suggested - double clicking on the item, then adjusting the controls manually - and I got the same result. When I attempted to “center and arrange”, the program just crashed.

When I opened that widow, all of the coordinates and measurements were set at 9999.00, which was weird. Is there any way to fix that?

Is there a way to default to mm before I even import a model?

Thanks again!

Run your model through netfabb and make sure you export the stl as just an stl and not the ASCII format as this confuses my simplify 3D

same problems here, on a mac also, do not have solution, but it only seems to happen on stuff I do with tinkered.

but I seem to get it to work by pilling up file in finder and dragging it over to build plate in S3D. Same file but seems to work.

Hey Jim,

Thanks for the reply! I actually talked with someone at Simplify3D, and he said the same thing. I guess there’s a bug in the software that makes File->Opening a model crash the program, but dragging it in from another window works fine. I’ve been doing it for a few days now without problems. He said he wasn’t sure why it was like that, but they’re obviously aware.

Thanks again, and good luck!
