I need to get a copy made of a window latch. One of the latches has recently broken, the other (identical) one is fine. The latch is approximately 2-3cms long and made of plastic. I’m new to 3D printing and don’t have a file to upload of the latch’s design, so wondered whether posting the functioning latch to someone with a 3D printer is a viable starting point to get some copies made.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Hi Michael,

This is definitely something I should be able to help you with and I’ve done this kind of thing before for clients. I typically charge £25/hour for design time + the cost of the final print (I don’t charge for any print/design iterations so I put the pressure on me to get it right first time lol) . If you want to get in touch and send through some photographs of the latch I’d be happy to give you a quote.

Cheers,

Marc

Hi Michael

I could help out on this too, if you wanted to get in touch. We could either print one or make a mould from your original and cast a couple.

Thanks Marc and Adam,

I am actually based in Cape Town but this is a window latch for my apartment in London. I’ve just emailed the tenants asking them to send me some photos of the latch etc. and then I can forward on so you get an idea what is involved and let me know the cost.

Many thanks,

Michael

If you can send me a couple of pictures of the thing from various angles, with some rough dimensions, I can try design one for you if you like?

Hi – yes, I’m sure that posting a spec and perhaps more important some clear photos would be a good starting point.

Hi Michael, Small world. I was born in Cape Town, grew up in SA and now live in London. Whereabouts in London are your tenants? Cheers, Marc
