Hi, I have a Hictop 3dp-11 - this board ( Printer Control Board MPX.3 RepRap Arduino-compatible Mother Board ) just burned out. I wanted to upgrade, maybe to a dual extruder but for now just upgrade the board. Are there any gotchyas to doing this?

Thanks

I like MKS v1.4 board. It is cheap and integrated. I use it with my Anet A8(another Prusa i3). It has dual extruders support, but I have not done it yet.

so is it as simple as just getting the connections right, getting the board right (firmware) software (CURA) and going with it? or are there compatibility concerns with stepper motors etc. i have to worry about?

I flashed it with Marlin v1.1.5. You need to buy A4899 modules with it. It will drive the stepper motors, but you might need to change configuration.h to change the directions. You might want to check all the pinout, make sure they match. Find out Marlin supports your LCD too.
