My idea is to 3d print a laptop case around a motherboard. Wondering what the best material would be for this.

Depends how thin it would be. I print a lot of materials but unless you have any special considerations, just about anything would be fine. Most people here print PLA which might not be a good idea if it’s going to contact any hot parts above 50c(starts to get soft around 60c). If you cannot find someone local or need a special material you can enquirer further at my hub.

Hi @Splitface2811 ,

according to my opignon, you need a material which remains stable at 50 to 60 ° C temperatures to avoid deformations in the case of a “burnout” of the equipment, but also a rigid material to ensure the strength in case of slight shocks during transport. Taking account of these elements, I will moving towards to Polycarbonate whose mechanical strength is interesting

but also for its use temperature up to 100 ° C without deformation problems.

I hope this information is helpful to you ^^

Hope it will be helpfull

Best regards

Its going to be about 3 mm or less thick. It shouldn’t contact any parts 50c or above but it might, I haven’t worked out the final design yet.
