I hear good things about the Sailfish firmware but I am on the fence on if I really need it. Would be nice to adjust more things from the makerbot but i don’t like getting too complex with things. And is Sailfish being updated? Best!

I have a rep 2 and use sailfish due to having upgraded my bot to a heated build plate. it works great and i have had no issues since the upgrade. still prints fine out of makerbot desktop if you prefer to slice files there. i use Simplify 3D with great results. The sailfish firmware offers added functionality if you want it but stays out of the way and “just works” like the stock firmware if you don’t want to use the expanded set of features. I say do it. if you don’t like it it is very easy to go back to the stock firmware.

Cheers!

I use the P-stop as a safety input and for filament jam detect… i.e. i’m not extruding… wait for the human to fix me.

I did it a few years ago on my Rep 2 and have not looked back. My prints have been great since. I have not kept track of any updates however.

I have had nothing but a good experience and good results with sailfish. I feel that it out performs the 5 generations hands down…

Well I got Sailfish on with some wind in my sail! It looks good. However getting the x and y offset looks like it will take forever.

… I got it. Just press and hold the up button. Well done.

I use a mac as my main computer and for slicing, it works fine… Sailfish is just the firmware inside your Makerbot machine, does not discriminate OS.

I’m using a Replicator 2X with sailfish, I never had to do any offset adjustments, everything works just perfect! Better print quality than the main firmware… now if only I had 149 USD to spare for simplify 3d…
