Hello fellow Pittsburghers, I was just wondering if there would be any demand for a locally made filament at a price point of $20/kilogram for PLA/ABS? I would love to buy the needed machinery to start making this stuff locally but the costs to buy an all in one system that does a decent job is high. Way too high for my own personal consumption. Let me know what you guys think… would you but some?

Hey Nick,

I live far away from Pittsburgh, but there should definitely be some demand with a price of $20/kilogram. I get filament for my printer which is £35 for 600mg, so about $70-$75 per kilogram roughly. If I lived close and had a printer that didn’t require the company’s filament then I would definitely buy some!

Good luck with the filament machine.

$20/Kg is a decent price point. Amazon have some at that price. I buy filaments from MicroCenter for anywhere from $14 to $22 /Kg. PLA is down in the 14 to 16 dollars, PETG is 18 to 25. The problem is MicroCenter is a 3 hour drive from me and shipping is $5 each so the same as your $20. If I was closer, I would buy from you.

I live in Atlanta and depending on shipping would definitely be interested.
