I have recently bought an Anet A8 3D printer, assembled it and went through a setup tutorial. However, when i go into settings and ‘home all’ the HeatBed moves backwards and produces an unpleasent grinding noise for a few seconds before stopping and the print head lowers down. That is the end of the process. I have watched youtube videos for help and one told me to go into position in the menu and find the y position. In there it says Min endstop. It says whether the endstop is on or off. The y endstop appears to be working.

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. Are you sure the endstop is in the correct position and is being hit when the bed moves back?
