Assembled A 8 and had main power to main board pos/neg reversed. Plugged in and saw some smoking in mainboard. Was only a few seconds. Unplugged unit, fixed to proper position and all seems fine. No visually burnt parts. Limit switches are working (manually), but no movement whatsover in motors. Tried going to “move fast” and they will not even move manually. The fan blower motor is not working either. Everything else seems to be working. Did I fry the motors? Hotbed heats, file shows its printing with percent progress? Total frustration. I ordered a new mainboard, but that may not be the issue?
I believe the power connectors on some boards didn’t match the instructions.
Do any parts look damaged?
Can you control the motors via pronterface?
You can also send Gcode commands to the printer to see what’s working.
turn the printer off (unplug it) and push/pull the build plate quickly. If it is connected correctly the screen will flash on, else it is either connected wrong/ motors are bad/ or you burnt the board.
Also if you have a multi meter you could check the motors
How do I check the motors with meter? I do have one
switch it to dc voltage and touch each to a pin, then turn the motor. A voltage should result
Okay, did that. They seem to have power. Ordered a new board from gear best. Now just have to wait. Thanks for your help.
