I took the extruder apart to make sure the gear with teeth was on properly, i can feed filament through so i know it not clogged. I tried printing something with the gear exposed so i can see if it would turn and it does not. Is this a common problem? motherboard or connector issue? or extruder motor just being a faulty motor.
make sure filament flow isn’t set to 0% on the machine or in your slicer settings. make sure the temp is set high enough that the printer doesn’t prevent cold extrusion (>180C or so).
obvious things aside, you could try swapping the extruder stepper with the x or y axis to see if the motor is indeed broken. could be a shorted cable or broken connector. check the connectors and make sure the pins are not bent or damaged.
if it turns out to be a bad stepper, they are about $10 on gearbest. I upgraded my shipping option to a ~$2 one and it arrived within a week
First step. Go to Nozzle temperature and set it to 190º
Setp2. Move axis, Extruder. 10mm. If it works, its gcode problem, if not try the next thing.
Step 1, swap the motor with another, use one Z axis motor, and repeat the first test. also move Z axis (just 1mm or less so you dont force the rows) to test if motor working
Conclusions. if after swap extruder isnt moving but z is doing… its motherboard fault. If after swap the extruder is working but the z axis you changed isnt. its the motor.
hope my solution can help you fix your issue. its a noobish but easy solution for test propose.
Thank you for the help, so i swapped with one of the z axis motors and i was able to get the extruder gear moving. Mean while they were swapped i tried moving the z axis and i could not move it. So does this mean its a motherboard issue. This proves bith motors and the connectors work properly.
