About octoprint and slicing

hi i just set up my octoprint on my raspberry pi the last days and i have a question. can i use octoremote on my smartphone or any other application to send a stl file to the octoprint slicer and slice it without the need of the computer or sd card? only octoprint and smartphone. because tbh if not i dont really understand what octoprint is good for… i tried to do it in the app but after i click the file for slicing it says invalid file… thanks a lot

You need to install earlier version of Cura on Raspberry for slicing, but I won’t recommend it. The newer version of Cura is far more powerful. Slicing your STL files locally, and only upload gcode to the Octoprint for printing. So many thing you can do in Octoprint, but slicing is not one of them. I have a webcam and auto power-off after printing on Octoprint, and many more.
