Hi

I’m a new a8 owner and having a problem reading SD cards. I have no trouble reading the original card that came with the printer, in fact I can load new gcode files on the original card and print them with no problem.

The card I want to use is a 4GB Trancend micro SDHC card formatted with FAT32. The original card that came with the printer is a no name 8GB micro SDHC card formatted with FAT32. In other words, identical but only half the size.

I have tried dismounting the original card and mounting the new card … no luck. I have tried resetting the machine with the new card plugged in … no luck. I have tried unplugging, waiting 5 minutes and restarting with the new card in the MB … no luck.

I know this is an old problem, but has anyone solved it yet ??

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer

I’m using an old kingston 2Gb micro sd, it is formatted FAT and it works

Hi Schuh8

Sorry to disappoint you, but SDHC cards are not supported by the Anet A8. It’s a technical limitation of the motherboard itself.

With best regards

Alex

Just for the record, the original card that came with my A8 was a SDHC card and it works fine.

You are right, SDHC cards are not incomaptible, but there are several problems with them. The Anet A8 is an Arduino style board, therefore the SD card is also an Adruino like SD card slot.

Just Google “Arduino SD card read problem” and you will find several threads regarding this topic.

Sorry I can’t help you with your problem, but I think your SD card is (for some reason… different SDHC class? Something else) incompatible with the Anet. If FAT32 or even FAT16 is not working, I don’t think you can do anything else…

You can try to flash the latest version of Skynet3D onto your printer, but I am not sure this will solve your problem.

My Makerbot Replicator 2 has the same limitation of 2GB max, SDHC is fine, it is the size of the card. I found some microSD 2GB cards and have been using these just to have spares. The original one has the covers starting to come apart and is temperamental when inserting the card.
