Hi all,

I often get asked by people which FDM printer to choose and as always this depends on what you what to do with it. We have many 3D Systems customers, therefore I created a breakdown of the 3D Systems FDM printers.

  • If you are new to 3D printing the low cost 2nd Generation Cube is ideal. It requires no training and no assembly. You can plug it in and start printing straight away. You can print anything up to 5.5 x 5.5 cm2 with a range of PLA cartridges from 3D Systems ensuring high quality prints.
  • If you want to create high-resolution prints in two colours and materials the 3rd Generation Cube is ideal – it is affordable and easy. The new non-clog technology and moisture-lock cartridges and instant material loading makes filament changes very easy. 70 micron high-resolution prints can be produced effortlessly through preloaded filament jets and an auto-levelling print pad.
  • Print in one, two or three colours and materials with the Cube Pro, Cube Pro Duo and Cube Pro Trio. Ideal for fast iteration and testing of functional and aesthetic prototyped parts for a full range of applications. The series is characterised by high speed and high resolution with a controlled environment. In addition the Cube Pro Duo and Trio print multi-colour and multiple materials. CubePro’s 70 micron thin prints in engineering grade Nylon, ABS and PLA gives you strength and diversity for your desktop prototyping.
The Cube is also ideal for home and education use (suitable for children from the age of 8 years and above) which is warranted through the IEC Home Printer Certification 60953 (TUV).
  • If you require a huge print volume of 275mm x 265mm x 240mm and three print heads to print in three colours and mix ABS and PLA then the Cube X Trio is a solution for you. Intricate and detailed prints can be made through a layer height of 0.1mm and up to 18 different colours from which you can choose.

If you want to get your own 3D printer and get it listed on 3D hubs we currently have currently an offer for you - up to 20% off 3D Systems FDM Printers.

Great breakdown! Now I just need to get one.

What is the one that is most comparable to the Ultimaker2?

Hi Matthias,

I would suggest the 3D Systems Cube Pro. It’s a bit more expensive than the Ultimaker 2 but has a heated chamber which gives you better ABS printing results than having only a heated bed (which is the case for the Ultimaker 2).

Cheers,
Sabine

Thanks, I will check it out!
