Yep, that’s right! Turns out PLA is not only stronger than expected at the human-scale, but is also buoyant!

Last week we had the pleasure of taking our intern Akshay’s inspired 3D printed surfboard out on the waves in Sligo, Ireland. Seven surfers took it out in two locations and were able to stand up & hang ten.

We’ve collected a lot of lessons learned (as well as a 100+ stickers of start-ups that attended Web Summit the week beforehand) and are in the process of writing a blog to capture the details on re3d.org 3.

We’d love your input on what information you would like us to include.

As a teaser, above is a cell phone pic of the inaugural test of our 7 ft, 4 piece, PLA 3D printed surfboard that we created on Gigabot.

I also want to see it from up close! What did the surfers say, was it any difference in riding it compared to a regular board?
