3D printer neewbie -what happens on 1st switch on

Hi,

I have a i3 kit which is finally finished.

Can someone please explain what to do with the 1st switch on?

I went to Auto home, the X axis moves to the left and keeps banging the extruder against the frame and the motor makes a jumping clonk sound, the limit switch is mounted on the right of the extruder.

The other axis appear to be working correctly,

I went into manual move and everything works as it should.

the hot end is not over the bed when its finished auto home,

Or just move the x endstop to the left side.

Position 0 on a cartisian printer is usual the front left corner of the heated bed (x, y at position 0) I for wiring reasons have my x limit on the right … you will have to change your x homing direction in your firmwares settings. If it is marlin (which it probably is) then Google how to configure marlin … your looking for “reverse homing position” and change it to true If you were supplied with a configuration file with your printer use and alter that, if you do not understand our know what your thermistor’s and steps per mm are

I have seen your situation ,everything is ok .

But the hot end is not over the bed when its finished auto home,you should tighten the Screw nut in hot bed.

Does this reply sound right to you…“hot end is not over the bed when its finished auto home,you should tighten the Screw nut in hot bed.” how does that make any difference.

I tried a auto home again, I manually pressed the limit switch to see if had any impact, it didnt stop the extruder hitting the frame.

I might load a file and try a “dry run” to see what happens

that response from the seller is terrible, it’s of no use at all !!

its a bit odd that the endstop did not work, have you checked that is is not faulty by using a multi-meter … you could also put it on one of the working axis Y or Z or vice versa… endstop’s usually have 2 positions NO (normally open) or NC (normally closed) … NC is usually the preferred type but you can change this in the firmware but the physical switch has to match!

From what I’m reading your initial suggestion was correct. If the endstop is on the right and the printer is homing to the left. The endstop needs to be moved to the left or the firmware needs to be flipped for the x endstop.

Totally agree… but he says he has depressed the endstop with his finger to test it and it didn’t stop…I now think I realise what he has done. I think he has put the x endstop on the right and put the endstop in “x max” position on the controller board… which is correct for the position … just needs to change the firmware to match. Alternativly put the x endstop on the left and change the position on the controller board to “x min”

I am going to move the limit switch on the left side (its only a plastic carriage and self tappers screws)

To change to X min can I do that through the menu display?

It’s where the endstop is wired into the controller board. there will be 6 terminals: x max, x min,y max, y min,z max, z min… you want to use the other x terminal for the wires. I hope that makes sense.
