Hi all, I am having a problem getting clean prints due to some gapping between the first and second layers.

I’ve tried to modify 1st layer height, extrusion width, but still haven’t been able to resolve this issue. The rest of the print past the 2nd layer is fine.

I’m using an A8 Chinese close of the Prusa i3 with Repetier.

Slicer Settings

  • Layer height / first layer height: 0.3mm (I have a 0.4mm nozzle; I have also tried this with 0.4mm and 0.2mm prints. There is still gapping, but minimized on 0.2mm)
  • Material: 1.75mm PLA

Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

We’ll need details. Material, temps, speed etc.

I’ve added screenshots of all my settings. I’m using 1.75mm PLA

Here are my first thoughts. First layer height may be to much. Also the gap on the nozzle to the bed for the first layer may be to much. I was thinking it is to hot also but for PLA the temps aren’t unreasonable.

I think I would re-level and check the gap. Reduce the first layer height, reduce extruder temp maybe by 10 and slow down.

These are just my thoughts of what I would look at if I saw this on my machine.

How big is this part? If it is really small then slow way down or print 4 at once. It may just not be cooling enough before the next layer. You could reduce the bed temp after the first layer also. Is there a cooling fan for the filament?
