Dear Hubbers,

I sold my Ultimaker Original (Umo) today after years of service. I’m planning to replace it with a newer printer, but any recommendations would be very welcome!

I mainly used my Umo to print PLA, but sometimes I used a different feeder and spoolholder so I could reliably print ninjaflex.

I wanted to print ABS or other materials but I had no heated bed…so thats a mandatory requirement on the new machine.

So, my budget is around €1200.

For that money I could buy a USED and stock Ultimaker 2 (2015).

Or I could buy a NEW Flashforge Creator Pro (which has dual extruders).

I checked the 2016 printer guide on here, and read many reviews on the web, but I just cant decide:(

Which would you buy and why?

other printer recommendations are also welcome!

Kind regards,

Ritch

Personally, I’d choose the Ultimaker any day. Genuine Ultimakers are built with precision, high quality parts and will last years without a problem. Didn’t you experience that with your old UMO?

FlashForge is a Chinese brand and the Creator Pro likely uses plenty of low-quality, “bare minimum to get it working” parts. I can’t speak for the Creator Pro, but my friend had a Creator, and out of the box it came calibrated horribly and was barely usable until he replaced the hotend. It’s been just a single year and the printer already looks like it’s on its deathbed. The Creator Pro does look more solid than the Creator, but the important elements, the motion and heating parts, look very similar if not identical. I wouldn’t trust them to have improved the quality significantly.

Of course, I could be entirely wrong, so you should probably wait for someone who has personal experience with the Creator Pro to give some input.

I just bought the Sidi Avatar IV, its identical to the Flashforge Creator Pro, but for $700,00 incl. Shipping to Europe ! Great deal ! Hope It will live up to its promise…

UMO+ is a great option. I have many of these and love them. I don’t think the UM2 is worth the extra cost, but it you can get a used one (hopefully with an olsson block) that might be a great option.
